PHYSICAL
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

Since she was born, Dakota's appearance has fluctuated. First, this was seemingly without rhyme or reason -- imagine her mom's surprise to look down at her baby and see an old man's face -- but as she aged, Dakota gained the ability to control this odd power. And while she's liable to change up her appearance at any moment, she's trying to spend more time in her "default" (and true) look.

PERSONALITY ASSESSMENT
MOTIVATION

You can draw a straight line between the movie "Point Break" and Dakota's eventual career as a spy. The movie, filmed in Hawaii, was a favorite of hers as a kid. FBI agent Johnny Utah, played by the incomparable Keanu Reeves, goes undercover as a surfing amateur in order to track down a gang of successful bank robbers known as the ‘Ex Presidents.’ Can a movie be any more fun than that? Young, shy Dakota didn't think so. She was hooked and sought out all the spy movies she could. As a young teen, she'd age herself up so she could see R rated flicks in theaters. Dakota was (and is) quiet and curious and a bit insecure. Being a spy -- being someone else -- felt cool, and it turned her special skill into something practical, as opposed to something... freakish. Her favorite things about being a spy are the deception, the adventure, and the feeling that her work isn't quite "real life."
APPLICATION

Dakota's most obvious asset as a spy, unsurprisingly, is her ability to change her look at will. She's early in her career, but most of her work thus far has been deep-cover. It means much of her experience has been working alone, embedding with strangers, and staying in character. She's not opposed to working with others, but she's not as adept at it -- she's not entirely comfortable in her own skin, and she doesn't always understand her fellow spies who don't possess her same abilities. She's results-oriented. She's given a job to do and it's her responsibility to get it done. She wants to do a good job. She'll ask for help, but primarily from experts who she views as mentors.
RISK

Because Dakota's view of her work is heavily informed by fictional movies, she incorrectly approaches her work with an air of invincibility. The hero always makes it to the end of the film! This doesn't mean she's unaware of the dangers around her, but she might not always properly assess how dangerous things are. On the flip side of the coin, she's not often overwhelmed by high-stress situations because her mind doesn't freeze up. She's tricked herself into seeing her job through the lens this is all "dress-up, cops and robbers, make-believe." Plus, there's the added psychology that comes from looking like someone else. Like, she's not in danger, this other person is. ON THE FLIP SIDE, Dakota is very conservative in her own life and doesn't take personal risks. It's the very fact that she can be someone else that frees her up.
INTEGRITY

Dakota has a complicated relationship with integrity. It's sometimes hard to accept the rules of the world when something fundamental about you defies them. It became easier to compartmentalize. Dakota, the real her that looks like her, is Good. She follows the rules, she's unassuming, she tries to please and not make waves. But if she's someone else, then she can be Not Good. Growing up, she could take your test for you or buy you alcohol, and in her mind, that didn't sully on her clean record. That was someone else. There was even a summer in high school where she had an alter ego -- Dakota with bangs who went by "Dak" -- who was a "bad girl." That identity is long retired, but the two versions of her still exits. In her regular life, Dakota lives a life of good integrity, she respects authority, seeks strong role models, and follows instructions. When she's in the field, it's not as though that gets thrown out the window, but she suddenly has a moral flexibility when the moment requires it.
ATTITUDE

Dakota is a bit of a loner. A touch awkward. The lasting result of being "different" from a young age. She's thoughtful, soft-spoken, and earnest. Always friendly and kind, Dakota enjoys being part an office place, though she's not always comfortable participating in it. She'd like to be in the room, but not at the center of it. She gravitates toward quieter, thoughtful people, and often those who are older than her. Mature folk. She's often used her ability to change her appearance as a crutch. She can do and say things as others without feeling embarrassed or thinking she'll be judged for it. She's removed from her actions and choices this way. But she's trying to spend more time as herself now, difficult as it is, and become more comfortable in her own skin. This job and office setting will be another fresh start for her.

CAREER HISTORY

Going to an Auror Academy was a breath of fresh air. For the first time in her life, she was surrounded by other people who were passionate about what she was passionate about. And, she was learning skills that felt pertinent to her life, as opposed to like... math? She kept her head down and worked hard. She read voraciously, and would pick the brains of any teacher who'd let her. She avoided competition (academic or personal) and steered clear of the teenage drama of her peers. She graduated with high marks and went right into field work.

Deep cover isn't for everyone, but Dakota was uniquely suited for it. She was committed, unafraid, and without the personal connections that often deter people from disappearing for extended periods. First, she infiltrated a group that was selling illegal street goods, namely knock-off potions and bootleg wands. For five months Dakota was Finnigan Donnelly, a middle-aged man with a knack for securing hard-to-find potion ingredients. Ultimately, she worked her way up the ladder, finally learning the identity of the couple at the top. She turned them in and Finnigan Donnelly was never seen again.

Off the success of that, she jumped right into her next assignment: a two month stint negotiating a buy with some dragon breeders, this time as Estelle Bright, a bored heiress in need of a new pet. From there, she did a month investigating a Quidditch fixing scheme. And her latest job involved subduing an extremist group in the Colorado Rockies, who were scheming a violent overthrow of the local government. Her cover was blown and she had to fake her own death before being extracted. (Dakota thinks this revolt isn't going to happen anymore, but maybe best avoid Moose Nawwest, Colorado if you can.)

She returned home for a few months and found it harder adjusting back than she expected. For the better part of two years, she hadn't been herself. Not only in appearance, but in behavior. And she'd spent precious little time with people who knew who the real Dakota even was. Being back in her own skin was uncomfortable and she'd often just change appearances so she wouldn't have to be. Sensing this wasn't the best habit, Dakota took her stored up vacation days and went home to Hawaii. Two months of island life felt like two years -- she hadn't been that stationary for so long -- but it helped reset her a bit.

Upon returning to the office, she heard about a new opportunity: a select group gathering in Las Vegas to look into the theft of some magical items. Initially reluctant, a mentor encouraged her to go. It'd be new type of opportunity: a chance to work more collaboratively, with other departments, and in a new setting. Swayed by her mentor -- and eager to return to work -- Dakota applied.
SKILLS
LANGUAGES

Fluent in Japanese. Doesn't speak any others proficiently, but is pretty good with accents.
HOBBIES

TBD -- will come back to this before doing an intro meme, though!
SKILLS
Metamorphmagus (3)

By the time Dakota was ten, she'd pretty much mastered the ability to change her appearance. She can alter her facial features, her hair, her musculature, her skin, her age, etc. She has noticed that it's harder for her to believably assume the identity of someone younger than her true age.
Animagus (0 - free to Area 51)

If changing her appearance at will is like riding a bike, then learning to become an animagi was like learning how to ride a unicycle. The comparisons are obvious, but they're entirely different beasts. After lots of frustrating work, Dakota finally turned into a reef triggerfish.
Disguise (0 - free to spies)

It's one thing to look like someone, it's another to assume an identity. From a young age, Dakota would study movies, mimicking how people talked and behaved. Accents and affects. Her work has an element of make-believe to her, and she relishes getting to "play a role."
Wandless Magic (2)

Knowing Dakota's deep-cover career aspirations, a professor at Area 51 recommended she learn wandless magic. She'd be spending a lot of time alone, embedded with criminals, and she'd need to be able to cast spells covertly. Not simply for protection. There might be times where her wand is taken away or unavailable and it'd be valuable for her to still be able to unlock things, improve her hearing, wipe people's memory, etc.
MISCELLANEOUS
WAND

9 inches, Cherry, Mermaid scale core
PATRONUS

Reef triggerfish
